If you have problems visiting Dollar Bay

One possible explanation, if you can't get the applet to run for Dollar Bay, is if you downloaded your copy of Netscape from the NDSU/helpdesk page. That will get you the Netscape Navigator 4.08. The latest version from Netscape, 4.7, is actually called Netscape Communicator, which is pretty different from the Navigator.

If you were to were to just go to the Netscape download page and get Netscape Communicator 4.7, it might solve any problems.

If you got your browser from the NDSU/helpdesk page, you will most likely need to download the java plug in. Here's how:

  1. http://www.java.sun.com/products/plugin/index.html
  2. Click on "Java Plug-in Software 1.2.2"
  3. Click the first "continue" button
  4. Follow directions for the rest.

Another possibility, if you were trying to connect from work, might be that you are behind a firewall and the communications from the server to the client are halted before they reach your workstation. Many firewalls prevent telnet sessions from connecting to "unsecure" sites, and many others prevent telnet sessions from connecting to "non-standard" ports. Dollar Bay requires both of these things, and either of them could cause a firewall to block the connection.
