A note from Paul Juell to my graduate students:

I have setup a web (or space on a TWiki server) for people working on their MS project or PhD project under me. If you are in that group, please enroll on the department TWiki at http://twiki.cs.ndsu.nodak.edu/twiki/bin/view . Include at the top of the list, your name date added (or changed) and your research project title or description (one line). Then send me email with your TWikiName. The subject line for the email should be "please add MyName to JuellgradsGroup", where MyName is your TWikiName. I will add your TWikiName to the JuellgradsGroup. You will then be able to read and write in the directory/web called Juellgrads. You can get there by going to the http://twiki.cs.ndsu.nodak.edu/twiki/bin/view/Juellgrads/IntroPage web page. Right now this space is readable and writable by anyone. I hope to get the protection turned on. Then this web will be semi secure, in that it is not visible to casual browsing, but is not secure against governments or hackers. Please use reasonable caution in placing things in this space. In addition, everyone's pages in the web can be read and written by anyone in the group. Respect others and their work. However, you may also find this a useful space for cooperative work.

Until I get the protection setup, send the email and go do the next steps. Once you get into the space please create a page with your TWikiName followed by "project" (so TWikiNameproject). You do this, by first making sure that you are in the Juellgrads area. Look at the top of the page and the URL. The top left of the page should show TWiki.Juellgrads and Juellgrads should be in the URL. Then go to the GO box and enter your TWikiNameproject. If you get a password screen and have not registered, cancel and fill in the registration. Otherwise enter your TWikiName and password and continue.

At the start of your project page specify your name, your TWikiName, your campus email address, your other email addresses (if they should be known), and other contact information (such as phone numbers, mail address, people here that can get messages to you and other). Do remember this area is visible to others. It would also be nice to attach a photo of you, about 64 by 64 is a nice size. Once you have created this page, please edit the page ActiveStudents and add you project page to the front of the list, the data added and the data last modified.

Fill out the rest of project page with information about the project. After your personal information provide your thesis/paper/dissertation information. The first line should be if the project is a thesis, plan b or dissertation. The next line should specify the current state of the project. Some states are: working on a topic, working on a proposal, prototyping the project, developing the project, project looks done - about to start writing, writing chapters, editing full document, scheduling oral, rewrites after orals, done. Specify when started, the current title and an abstract. I may be using this title and abstract in external publications. This should be followed by the most current proposal. All major changes should have the date of the last major change. As you progress, you many want to place drafts of your paper and presentations here or to email them to me. When you finish, I want the final versions of the products left on your page. This include the final version approved by the grad. school.

You can create other pages in this space. However, since the space (or in TWiki terms web) is being using a number of people, please use your last name or TWiki name at the start of the file so we can figure out whose page it is.

Thank you,
Paul Juell (last updated 1/12/03)
