Undergraduate Degrees

Computer Science is a very exciting subject with excellent job and career opportunities in many areas. The Department of Computer Science and Operations Research offers both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. We cooperate with the College of Business Administration in offering a joint B.S. in Management Information Systems (MIS) and with the department of Mathematics in offering a double major. Thus, a student interested in working with computers has the maximum possible flexibility in deciding which program to pursue.

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science was the first program in this region to be nationally accredited by the Computer Science Accreditation Board. The B.S. continues to be nationally accredited and this recognition assures you that it is one of the top programs in the nation. The B.S. provides the best education for someone intending to make a career in the computing areas. If you feel you might consider graduate school eventuallyFebruary 4, 2009r of Arts (B.A.) in Computer Science provides an excellent foundation for a career in computing, but stresses applications rather than an even balance of applications and concepts. The B.A. also differs from the B.S. in requiring two years of a foreign language as well.

Students interested in business and computing should consider the B.S. in MIS program. This program provides about two thirds of the computing coursFebruary 4, 2009ncludes nearly all the requirements for a B.S. in Business Administration. Students intending to move quickly into management positions, should consider this program followed by an MBA.

Students interested in mathematics and computing should check out the requirements for the joint double major in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Requirements of all four programs (either explicit or as links) and a listing of recent and proposed which courses offerings, will be offered in each semester and a prerequisite flowchart for the B.S. courses form the rest of this document.

You will find links to other documents such as a check sheet that will help you to keep track of your completion of the general education requirements and other standard forms (follow the forms link), an online copy of the Bulletin, a listing of Dates and Deadlines, the current general education requirements, academic policies, Undergraduate Audit check sheets, and more. at the home page of the NDSU Registrar.
